The Madras
Co-operative Milk Supply union Ltd., was started on
26.12.1927, by DIWAN BAHADUR K. DEIVA SIGAMANI MUDALIAR,
FOUNDER OF THE UNION. This is the first Co-operative
Milk Supply union started in South East Asia. The first
president of this union was JANAB. M. KADER BATCHA SAHIB
BAHADUR. Then its name has been converted as District
Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union on 10.04.1979. The
area of operation of this union spreads over in
Kancheepuram and Thiruvallur Districts.
The founder of
this Union, Diwan Bahadur K. Deivasigamani Mudaliar was
born on 1891 at Kilacheri Village near Tiruvallur. He
had his higher studies in Pachaiappas College Chennai.
Thiru Rajagopalachariar, Registrar of Chennai Presidency
has recognised the services of Thiru K. Deiva Sigamani
Mudaliar, and appointed him as Co-operative Auditor in
1905. He was the President of this milk supply society
from 1936 to 1939.
During 1926 he
took charge as Registrar (District Collector Rank) and
he retired during 1934. He organised many Co-operative
Societies all over the state under the following heads.
- (1) Land Mortgage Banks
- (2) Milk Supply Societies
- (3) Weavers Societies
- (4) Building Societies
This union is implementing all
Dairy Development activities in Kancheepuram –
Thiruvllur Districts area under the administrative
control of the Special Commissioner, Dairy Development
Department, Chennai 51, and Deputy Registrar ( Dairying
) Kancheepuram and Thiruvallur.
